For many families, finding the right support for a child who learns differently can be a long and confusing journey. By the time they seek specialist help, they may have spent years trying to understand why their bright, capable child is finding reading, writing or learning so much harder than expected. DyslexAbility is one place where many of those families eventually arrive.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, DyslexAbility offers specialist intervention and support for children, teenagers and adults with dyslexia and other learning differences. The centre was founded on the understanding that learning differences are not a reflection of intelligence. Every learner has different strengths, challenges and goals, so support is tailored to the individual using structured, evidence-based approaches that help develop the skills needed to learn and thrive.

Although literacy intervention remains at the heart of the centre, support extends beyond reading and spelling. Students can access maths, writing, preschool literacy and numeracy, life skills, online learning and creative therapies, with programs tailored to each learner’s individual needs.

The articles that follow explore DyslexAbility through the people whose lives it has touched. Founder Sue Miller begins by sharing the personal journey that led to the creation of the centre. Former DyslexAbility student Kingston Clarke then reflects on his own Dystinct Journey, from struggling at school to finding confidence and learning to advocate for himself, before taking readers behind the scenes in a special video that explores the centre and the team behind it. The feature concludes with the stories of three young people and their mums, offering an honest insight into the challenges they faced, the support they received and how it has shaped their journeys.
Take a look inside DyslexAbility through the eyes of one of its students. Join Kingston Clarke as he takes you behind the scenes at DyslexAbility, chatting with educators and fellow students about what makes the centre such a special place to learn, grow, and thrive.
